Learn more about Private Victor Carter, a patient treated at Balgowan Voluntary Aid Detachment Hospital

Military service

Private Victor Carter was a member of the 7th battalion Royal Sussex Regiment.

The 7th battalion served as part of the 36th brigade of the 12th division, meaning that Private Carter would have enlisted as volunteer in Colchester.

Private Carter entered France on 26th October 1915.

Private Carter’s entry on page 9 in Nurse Harvey’s autograph book stated that he was injured on 3rd March at Vermelles.

During that period his brigade was responsible for an enemy front trench. It is possible that Private Carter was injured during this action.

Private Carter was awarded the 1915 star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
