Nurse Elsie Maud Harvey

Elsie Maud Harvey was the daughter of a British banker and was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in December, 1886.

She was a nurse at Balgowan between December 1915 and July 1918 and lived nearby at 36 Fox Grove Road, Beckenham. She married in 1918 to become Mrs Pearson and moved away from Beckenham.

Autograph book

Nurse Harvey collected the signatures of many of the men she cared for in an autograph album. The album contains messages, poems, and drawings, many of them giving moving insights into the men’s experiences. Images from the album can be seen here.
