Ellen Davis
At the outbreak of the First World War, Ellen was aged 50 and living at ‘Darrickwood’ on Crofton Road, Orpington. Her husband was a surgeon and the family were able to employ eight servants.
Effect of the First World War – deaths of her sons
Two of Ellen’s sons were killed in action during the First World War. The first to lose his life was her son Guy who served as a Lieutenant in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He died in June 1916. Less than two years later, Ellen lost a second son, Wilfred who also served in the Northumberland Fusiliers.
